After a busy & successful summer, we’re already back at it. We had a meeting last Thursday to come up with some ideas for new projects. We talked about social justice issues that affect our lives and how we have the ability to make simple changes.
Since 2010, we have raised more than $30,000 in youth-led project grants. There is the reason why we keep getting grants to fund our projects: we know how to make plans, engage other youth, have fun, and make change. We have been leaders in our community, bringing our portable recording studio to schools to help other kids be creative and express themselves. We also have experience with live events– we have helped out at the Sunset Community Festival—doing outreach, running live sound, performing, setting up & cleaning up etc., which was an annual event run by Sunset Youth Services for 20 years. For the past two years, we put on our own youth-focused arts festival with the help of a grant from the Youth Empowerment Fund and now we’ve accomplished a summer Open Mic series. This fall, we’re applying for more grants to fund our ideas. Let’s hope we get funded!
